What is captology and why should we care?

Technology has become an inseparable part of society. Especially for the generation born after 2000, technology has been part of life from the start. It feels so intertwined that it has become part of us, and separation from it seems unrealistic. Marshall McLuhan (1967) called technology an extension of our bodies and nervous systems, effectively becoming part of the self. However, this raises questions about humankind's physiological and mental development and highlights many ethical concerns.T...

JesmondLocal spoke to locals who complained about student vehicles parked in their streets, the majority of them supposedly abandoned for months.

One resident walking a dog on the road, who asked to remain anonymous because she does not want to annoy neighbours, said: “The universities do own...

The decline of drinking culture

Actually, because of social media's growing “healthy lifestyle” content, a lot of consumers of these posts and videos, the majority being younger women, might feel prone to consuming less alcohol than the generation before.

Following from this, although a bit controversial, society nowadays is becoming constantly more open to the illegal use of drugs such as marijuana. According to CrescentCanna, “Gen Z is the fastest-growing group of cannabis users,” although more than half of them cannot lega...

Is JD Wetherspoon as cheap as people say?  | Cheap Bites of the Tyne

I will never forget the first time I went out in Newcastle. I asked people where we were going. They said ‘Spoons.’ And my reaction was: ‘What is ‘Spoons’?

Now, when I know it is a pub chain, popular especially among students for its low prices, I decided to share my opinion.

JD Wetherspoon has ten branches in Newcastle, but I chose to go to the Five Swans, as I personally like this one, and it is also considered the most student-friendly one.

My boyfriend was accompanying me, and on...

Cheap Bites of the Tyne

On this website, I would like to share my experience and how I personally deal with food and drinks. I would like to show what both Newcastle and Northumbria University have to offer for students, including interesting food events. My goal also is to accommodate for people with specific diets, such as different ranges of allergies, intolerances, or just simply veganism and vegetarianism. And on top of this, to make everything as affordable as possible, because money is usually one of the biggest concerns among students.

People pleasing and its consequences

Being a people pleaser does not only mean feeling guilty about telling others ‘no’. It can also mean apologising for things that aren’t your fault, pretending that your opinion corresponds with others and what people think about you, and prioritising that over your actual feelings – if you have noticed one of the mentioned above within yourself – you might just be a people pleaser. It's a vicious cycle.

Some may argue that it's about being kind and making other people happy, hence the 'pleasing...
